Hosea Rock Opera Song #13

Hosea and Gomer are leaving the brothel where she’s been a virtual sex slave to her pimp.  As they walk towards their house they sing a duet in a bluegrass style.

Gomer:  You came and found me when I was good and lost, I’d crawled into the grave, given myself up for dead.

I broke faith with you, how could you love me now.  I traded a harlot’s couch for your sacred marriage bed.

Hosea:  Why are you so surprised that I love you girl.  I didn’t say ‘let’s strike a deal; let’s give this thing a whirl’.

Love that means anything is more than just a trade.  My love’s without condition, it’s not a bargain made.

Both:  Heav’n came down to where we were, and built it’s kingdom there.  We’ve no need for pie in the sky.  That stupid pie’s not there.

When you came home with me paradise was what we had to share, the Kingdom of God is here, it’s ours if we only will dare.

Gomer:  It was you who really loved me, but I bought into a lie, didn’t think that love was real, I just wanted to get high.

You know I’m bent and broken, I can’t even tell you why. I want to do my best but fail no matter how I try.

Hosea:  My love’s ordained by heaven, it may suffer but not die.  I know you heart is good and I know just how hard you try.

It’s your trying hard that blesses me while our lives we try to mend.  And we’ll keep working on this love till we get it in the end.

Both:  Heav’n came down to where we were and built it’s kingdom there.  We have no need for pie in the sky.  That stupid pie’s not there.

When you came home with me paradise was what we had to share, the Kingdom of God is here, it’s ours if we only will dare.

Gomer:  You know what folks will say about me, that I’m still a whore.  Once I’ve got tired of living this life I’ll be slipping out that door.

Stay with me please and lift me when I fall, help me be good.  I’m tired of empty idols, help me be more like I should.

Hosea:  I never cared what people think why should I worry now.  We’re in this thing together and our God will show us how.

So let ’em talk and let ’em to their wooden idols bow, it’s God that lifts us both up and He’s lifting us up now.

Both:  Heav’n came down to where we were and built it’s kingdom there.  We’ve no need for pie in the sky.  That stupid pie’s not there.

When you came home with me paradise was what we had to share.  The Kingdom of God is here, it’s ours if we only will dare.
